Core work
Ceramic, porcelain, stone and large-format tile, fixed to walls and floors in wet and dry areas.
Bathrooms, ensuites, powder rooms and laundries tiled from the screed up. Falls are set to the waste, shower recesses are formed to drain, and wall tiles are set out so the cut course lands low rather than at eye level.
Splashbacks, benchtop surrounds and butler's pantries. Cut-outs around power points, rangehoods and window returns are planned into the set-out so the joint pattern still reads correctly once the appliances are in.
600 × 600 porcelain and larger through living areas, hallways and alfrescos. Big tiles show every deviation in a slab, so levelling, back-buttering and lippage control do most of the work here.
Tiling for modular and transportable builds, unit developments and commercial fitouts. One set-out is agreed for each unit type and then repeated, so module six is identical to module one and defects do not multiply.
Substrate work before the tiling: screeding, self-levelling, priming, sheet and board checks, and waterproof membrane to wet-area floors, junctions and penetrations, given its full cure before fixing begins.
Smaller remedial work: replacing drummy or cracked tiles, raking out and regrouting tired joints, renewing perished silicone, and sealing porous stone and grout lines.
Formats & materials
Different materials want different treatment. Rectified porcelain can carry a narrow joint but needs a flat substrate to do it. Natural stone usually wants sealing before grouting. Thin, large panels need the right adhesive coverage or they sound hollow underfoot within a year.
